If you want to display a video on your page4 website, you have to upload it to one of the many video portals, mark it as public and then you can embed the video on your page with a few clicks.
Why is it currently not possible to upload videos directly to my page4 site? If you publish a video on Youtube or Vimeo, for example, these portals process your file after uploading and ensure that your video is displayed optimally in every browser and on every operating system. For this reason, we have not yet made it possible for you to upload videos directly to Page4. It is not a problem to upload video files to our server. The problem is to make sure that the uploaded video file is played automatically in every browser. This requires a lot of effort and constant control.
The other is that your video will be shown not only on your site, but also on the portals directly. If you make sure that visitors who see your video on Youtube can see a link to your page4 website, you make sure that more people visit your website. So it pays off to choose the right portal and advertise your homepage with videos. So it makes sense to place your video on a platform optimized for this purpose and with page4 you just make sure that these videos are played on your homepage.
1) If you have selected the video, the link to the video is usually displayed at the top of the browser bar and if you copy that, it should work. However, some portals also provide a special link to embed in your page. Our system checks if your link works. If not, then it is either a wrong link or the video is not published.
2) All portals supported by Page4 can be reached here with one click.
3) You can display the video in three different sizes. If the column is smaller than the width of the video, page4 will automatically adjust the video to the available width.
4) Here you determine how the video should be aligned on the page.
5) Once you save it, the video will be available, provided the link is correct.
Note
You can link a new video at any time. When you open a video content element that is already linked to a video, you will see the button to link a new video to the right of the video's name.
Handling
The operation of the "External video" content element is quite simple. Actually, you just need to insert a link to your video and save it. Each portal displays the link differently. Our content element is built in such a way that it can automatically detect whether the link is compatible with one of the supported portals and ensures that the link is displayed correctly. Below the field where you enter the link, there are a lot of icons listed, all of them linked to the different portals. So you can jump to your portal with one click (a new browser window will open) and go to your video and copy the link and then paste it into the "Link" field.
In "Options" you can choose the size and the centering on the page. Save and you're done.
If you open the content element after you have embedded a video, a button "Select a new video" appears behind the field with your link. If you click on it, the link will be deleted and you can insert a new one.
Important: The video will only be played when you are logged out. In admin mode, a generated preview image will be displayed.
Good to know: The size of the video depends of course on the width of the column. Regardless of the size you have chosen in the element itself. You should therefore provide enough space if you want the video to be displayed as large as possible. Whether and which control elements are displayed depends on which options have been set for the video in the respective portal. Likewise, whether the video should start immediately or be started manually. Since these options are controlled by the video itself, there are no setting options for them in the content element.
